Privacy policy
Nothing to collect.
The app does talk to a few services over the internet in order to work. This page lists each one and what it sees. Nothing here identifies you to us, because nothing is ever sent to us.
Faraway Radio has no account, no analytics, no ad networks and no tracking of any kind. We do not collect, store or receive any personal data from the app.
Last updated October 16, 2026. Applies to Faraway Radio 1.0 for iOS.
What we collect
- From the app
- Nothing. Faraway Radio has no servers of its own and sends no data to Myrsky Dev Oy.
- If you email us
- We receive your email address and your message, and keep them only to answer you. Ask, and we delete them.
Your library
- Saved stations and songs
- The stations you keep, your folders, and songs you mark as liked.
- Listening history
- Songs the app has named for you, and your rounds of the guessing game.
- Settings
- Your filters, language choice, and a short list of streams that recently failed so they are skipped. These stay on the phone.
- Where it lives
- On your phone and, if you are signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud, so your library follows you to your other Apple devices. It is stored in your Apple Account, and we have no access to it. You can turn this off in the iPhone Settings app under your name › iCloud. Delete the app and the copy on the phone is gone.
Services the app connects to
- Radio Browser
- The community-run station directory (api.radio-browser.info). The app asks it for station lists by country, genre and name. Like any web server it sees your IP address while answering; the app sends nothing else.
- Radio broadcasters
- Audio streams come straight from each station's own server. The broadcaster you are listening to sees your IP address, exactly as it would if you opened the stream in a browser. Ads you may hear in a stream come from the station or its stream provider, not from us. Their own privacy terms apply.
- MET Norway
- Weather for the sky over the globe (api.met.no). The request carries the coordinates of the station you are hearing, never your own location. The app does not ask for or use location services.
- Apple — iCloud
- Syncs your library through your private iCloud database, as described above. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Apple — Shazam
- When you tap to name a song, the app records a few seconds of what is playing and sends an audio fingerprint to Apple's ShazamKit service for matching. The recording is not saved, and the microphone is used only while you are identifying a song. Apple's privacy policy applies to the match.
- Apple — iTunes Search and Apple Music
- Once a song is named, the app looks up its artwork and store link by title and artist (itunes.apple.com, MusicKit). Nothing about you is in the request.
- Links you tap
- A station's website, or a song search on Spotify or YouTube, opens outside the app only when you tap it. Their own privacy terms apply from there.
- Apple — App Store
- The one-time unlock is an in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We receive no name, email or payment detail; Apple tells the app only that the purchase exists.
What we never do
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs of any kind
- No ad networks, no banners or pop-up ads, and no advertising identifiers
- No account, sign-in, or email collection in the app
- No location access — the globe spins to stations, not to you
- No sale or sharing of your data, with anyone
Partners, in the future
- As Faraway Radio grows, we may work with partners such as tourism boards, travel companies and radio stations. Their content, including paid placements, would appear only in one clearly marked place in the app, chosen by the station you are hearing, never by who you are. Nothing about you would be shared with them. Before any version with partner content ships, this page will say exactly how it works.
This website
- Visit counts
- farawayradio.com uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits. It sets no cookies and does not identify you; it sees which page was opened, the site you came from, and your country, browser and device type.
- Hosting
- The site is hosted by Vercel, whose servers keep standard technical logs, including IP addresses, for a short time for security and operation.
Children
- The app collects no data from anyone, including children. Live radio is unmoderated broadcast content from around the world, so what you hear is up to each station.
Who we are and your rights
- Faraway Radio is made by Myrsky Dev Oy, Finland, which is responsible for any personal data described here. Contact: support@farawayradio.com.
- You can ask what we hold about you (in practice, only emails you have sent us), have it corrected or deleted, and complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).
Changes
- If a future version adds a service or starts handling data differently, this page will be updated and the date above changed before that version ships.
